We know what it takes to plan a meeting to Mexico and have a few tips and tricks up our sleeve to help you identify the right questions to ask. As for meeting and corporate event planners, we often forget precautions we should consider when planning personal trips for our families. It’s crucial to do research so that you make sure you cover all your bases and don't get too lost in the excitement of the journey!
We’ve put together a list of 5 things to prepare for to make your trip as fun and relaxing as possible!

  1. Do your research, define a plan, and fill others in

Whenever you go somewhere new, you don't want to be unsure of anything, so the best way to avoid that is to do your research. Do some quick internet searches of safe places to stay and places to stay away from. Find out what restaurants are up to code. Write down your itinerary.

Once you've finished your research and figured out the destinations you want to see before your trip ends, it's time to let others know what you'll be up to. Share your itinerary with someone in the states in case you need to be contacted or someone needs to find or get a hold of you. Also, be sure to make a copy of your passport.

One of the most important groups of people to inform about your trip is your bank or credit card company. Let the people in charge of your finances know that you'll be spending money in a different area so a freeze is not placed on your account, putting you out of money… bringing us to tip #2

  1. Take out cash and try to avoid using plastic (credit/debit cards)

Using cash eliminates your risk of credit card fraud and identity theft due to the fact that you aren't exchanging important financial information. If you do choose to use credit or debit cards, make sure you keep your cards close and check your accounts frequently to monitor for suspicious activity.

  1. Don't be a typical tourist…blend in

Whenever you go to a foreign place, you don’t want to draw attention to yourself. Unless you're headed to an extremely prestigious reception or gala, leave the expensive watches, shiny shoes and suits and dresses at home. Even when traveling about exploring for a day, throw on sensible shoes and comfortable clothes. Not only will you feel more comfortable physically, your mind will be at ease knowing you're not an easy target for nefarious activity.

  1. Ask about ensuring proper transportation

Whether you're flying into Mexico on a big plane or sailing in on a cruise ship, once you're in, it's not as comfortable or safe to simply call an Uber or wave your hand for a cab as there are unsafe, fake services that can scam you. Always be sure to talk to your hotel concierge and ask them to find you a reputable ride before you head out for the day.

  1. Watch what you eat and drink

When you go to Mexico, you want to make sure you have a fun time, we get it! But you should also make sure you're staying safe and consume only what you're supposed to. Margaritas and shots of tequila on the beach sound phenomenal, but you don't want to end up getting sick because of it. It's also important to make sure what you're eating is prepared and served somewhere clean and reputable, so jump on Yelp and ask around for the best place to eat!

Don't forget to make sure you always have a safe ride back home after a fun night of celebration!

As long as you follow these 5 tips, you’ll be able to have the genuinely relaxing trip in Mexico you set out to have!
